1 Students will develop a basic understanding of historical trends and the current theory and research in the field of Psychological Disorders

2 Students will consider and be able to discuss the controversies that surround issue such as the use of diagnostic systems and labels, the use of medication and empirically supported treatments, and the concept of resilience

3 Students will understand and recall the current thinking and research regarding the generalizability of theories and research across ethnic and social class differences

4 Students will reflect on the life experiences of people who struggle with each of several selected psychological problems, including attitudes and coping strategies, as well as resilience. Students will demonstrate an understanding of how psychological theory and research is applied in multiple professional domains

5 Students will research and develop sound research-based arguments based on thoughtful evaluation of psychological literature
