1 Students will develop a basic understanding of the current theory and research regarding the nature, etiology and treatment of the major psychological disorders that occur during childhood and adolescence
2 Students will consider and be able to discuss the controversies that surround some important issues in child and adolescent developmental psychopathology such as how abnormal is defined; the use of diagnostic systems and labels; the use of medication with children; empirically supported treatments
3 Students will understand and recall the current thinking and research regarding the generalizability of theories and research across ethnic and social class differences
4 Students will reflect on the life experiences of children/adolescents who struggle with each of several selected psychological problems, including attitudes and coping strategies The experiences of their families will also be considered
