Course Description
This is the first of two courses that focus on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to care for individuals, groups, and families experiencing addiction. This course focuses on theoretical frameworks of addiction and related mental health counseling and nursing theories as well as the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of addiction disorders across the lifespan. Course content includes both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, healthcare systems and transdisciplinary addictions counseling competencies, cultural considerations, and the integration of common co-morbid psychiatric and medical conditions. Prerequisite: Admission to Graduate Counseling Programs or Transdisciplinary Addiction Professional Post-Graduate Certificate Program or permission of GCP Director.
