Course Description

This course will introduce the dental hygiene student to the basic concepts of community dental health. The methods used to measure dental disease in a population and the process used to plan a community intervention program designed to improve oral health will be discussed. Effective preventive treatment programs will be discussed and the methods used to evaluate effectiveness will be explained. Community dental research principles will be explored and students will be involved in simple statistical analyses. Students will apply public health/health education principles by designing and presenting dental health education projects to various audiences. Pre-requisite: DH 101, DH 104 and DH 148
